Preliminaries out of the way Cord ratcheted things up a bit. He was traeding water here. This was an unofficial Q and A so he'd have to tiptoe a bit. He was looking for reliable people and weeding out those that he couldn't count onto to do the right thing. He needed the squad tobecome a bit moreproactive. andthat wasn't always legally possible sohe needed those that understood the difference so that they wouldn't cross into vigilanteeism.
"So going with that you've always had a bent toward the supernatural...I don't see a mention of school in your jacket. how'd you come by your knowledge?"

"Former hustler, former life. Maybe this is the reason why my record is so important to me. I came by my knowledge by being curious. The concept of bumpidy bump in the night gives me goosebumps. One night I was walking down the street, and I saw a big ass I tiger rip a man apart. It was in the paper Jan 23, 1998 sun-times front page. Ever since that moment I wanted to make sure that things like that didn't happen. By the way Sir. I registered at Harold Washington Library two days later, and got my associates two years later and applied for the academy."
This guy was weeding Tak out. The funny part was he was desperate. Cord was crying for help in a department that screamed a need for leadership. Ever since meeting her Tak has had a softer heart. Courtney has changed something in him. The word empathy has always been a term for humans. No longer. Now he could almost feel the pain, and frustrations in Cord.

" So it comes down to this Takanashita. What we have doesn't work. Well to be more honest it works as well as the system will allow. We need to streamline things a bit. We need to get these guys that do harm. So far with this new crop we seem to be spinning our heels. I don't like that not one bit."
Ignoring the pain that was beginning to flare up at the base of his skull Cord waded on. He was already in the deep end some of the things he was doing was right on the hairy edge. The line was a thin one but he wouldn't cross it as it would do more harm than good. He needed to put some order to the team. From that order he hoped to wring some justice from the city for those that were victimized.
Catching Takanashitas gaze he knew the man was hedging but better the devil you know. He would have to do. "Look we need this goon brought down. No if ands or buts get it done. This is your case handle it. Get whatever you need and get this guy before he does damage we can't hide and we have a panic on our hands. Bring me the requests for anything you need for now."
Making a notation in Takanashitas Jacket Cord looked back up at the man. "Well what are you waiting for on your way out send in Mayhew thanks..."

Chance had been using the time while waiting for the Captain to go over his notes for what seemed like the fifty billionth time, and he was still no closer to figuring out just what was going on then he had been when he and Rayvan had talked it out in the McDonalds.
He hated the thought of it, but he might just have to contact the mysterious Miss Winter to ask a few pointed questions. He didn’t like that thought, but it kept cropping up, and he was honestly not sure how much of it was his own logic and how much might be a lingering aftereffect of that damn glamour of hers.
So when Takanashita stepped out of Cord’s office and waved him in, he was almost grateful for the interruption.
“You wanted to see me, Captain?”

"Yeah I do. Just got a few questions. This is normally a thing I would do to weed out the staff when I was a lieutenant I guess some habits die hard."
Cord offered a smile. He had learned from his brief run in with Takanashita that maybe these new guys were a bit testy. So he would soft shoe while before he got to the crux of his inquiry.
"Where are we on you and Wolfbaens case?"
It was an innocuous question he knew that an Officer as decorated as Chance would give a straight shot on this one. It was a soft lob he just hoped that Mayhew wouldn't read to much into it as Cord did want to check his progress as well it just wasn't central to what he needed to know.

Chance returned the smile and settled into the chair in front of Cord’s desk. He’d rather been expecting something like this, especially if his former Captian had spilled the beans about Chance’s little ability. And he was well aware of the ploy to get him talking on what would seem a safe topic.
“It’s kind of confusing, Captain. We’ve gotten some answers, but so far, all they’ve led to is more questions. The deceased was a messenger from the Courts, under a gees. He’s not technically dead, but we can still go on it as a murder, I think. We know some of what the message was, but not for whom it was intended. And, near as we can tell, the hitter was Max Logan. Can’t prove it in a Court of law, but I’m sure of it, and that leads to even more questions.”
He paused then, waiting for questions. Or for the confirmation that Cord knew what Chance was.

"Legally proving is always the problem. Thats kind of what i want to talk to you about. Now that Detective Conner was called away on personal leave. I'm going to take a more active role . What I'd like to do is move you up to acting lieutenant in the meantime."
Cord only allowed a moment for the news to set in. "Look Mayhew a man with your talents could be making an obscene amount of cash doing 'other' things. You chose the law as your business. Sometimes in her blindness she doesn't love us as much as she should. In short I need to know how far are you willing to go to get this and any other cases solved..."
The cat was out of the bag now the ball was in Mayhews court he would either belly up to the bar or Cord would need to juggle things to keep him out of the full loop...

Chance’s face went into sharp focus, watching Cord and trying to read what he was about with that question. That Chance’s former Captain had told Cord of his abilities spoke volumes in and of itself. Donald had given Chance, and all of his men, great latitude in accomplishing their goals and had insulated them from public opinion as to their methods.
“So, it‘s up to my answer as to whether that little ‘promotion’ takes me out of the field or not.” It wasn’t a question. He settled back in his chair then, elbows on the arms, fingers steepled in front of him. “Look, Captain. You’ve seen my jacket, and you can read between the lines. Most of my coworkers in Portland were monsters. We tended to take the monster ways with the monsters. I’m here because the powers that be decided that monsters were monsters, no matter the badge. You tell me the limits you want kept to, and then let me loose. But I have to know, for me and my partner, that we won’t get hung out to dry on this.” Chance’s eyes all but bored into Cord. Chance wasn’t the only one being assessed and considered for weeding out here today.

Cords smile brightened a bit as Mayhews eyes clouded with the bright shiny look of the hunt. The man was appraising him and the entire situation that would do just right for what Cord was cooking up.He wasn't the sort to go off half cocked. He was also wily enough to force the issue out into the open. Mayhew was the calm to Takanashitas storm.
Okay so that was two down.
Cord looked deeply into the Mayhews eyes. He didn't like having to do this but he had to know exactly where the man stood. "Okay, Mayhew. I get where you're driving. So lets say we have a deal how are you going to stop this threat to the public safety?""
Cord knew Mayhew understood the question. He knew it was a question that no cop cpould go on record honestly stating their intent. It could mean an officers career if they condoned or even admitted to the knowing of the Lycanthropes or Vampires form of justice...

Chance picked his words with care. He and Ravan weren’t out of the woods yet. “Max Logan has something going for him other than just his particular brand of crazy. What I got says maybe it’s magic. The mage he was working with on this is dead, killed by a young lady I’d very much like to talk to. But I don’t know who else might be involved in this, and magic is always a touchy business when it comes to bringing one of them down. Another reason I want to talk to that woman. But I’m reminded of a phrase from a movie I once saw, though the movie quote references gunslingers; they have a mage, we get a mage. You know one? Who’s trustworthy?”
He changed topics then without a break in his logic. “The message was for a fae. What do you have on a woman named Miss Winter? She conveniently ran into my partner and I the other day, and threw glamour like people throw pennies into a fountain. She’s into this up to her pretty little eyeballs, I’m sure, but I don’t know how.”
