Easy stopped at the wall as he did every day upon entering the building. Even on the night shift rotation he stopped looking at the wall of fallen officers. Most were detectives. Then strangely enough Police consultants. Uniformed officers were the third in line. There shouldn’t ever be fallen officers, not to his way of thinking. It happened not just here in RPIT but in every facet of the police had a wall of fallen. It was always held in such esteem. Those fallen in the line of duty. And it always disgruntled him. More here in RPIT yes, they like mythic angels struggled against Preternatural demons but in truth barring the few outliers there was never a reason for an officer to fall to the Preternatural. Having straddled the line, he stood in front of the wall a choice percolating in his head. It was ne that had been with him for awhile now. But since the wedding it had taken on an insistence. Even meditation had not abated the call, the push.
Squeezing the bridge of his nose he inhaled deeply and slowly holding the breath just until it his lungs sought release. Slowly exhaling he opened his eyes looking once more at the wall of the fallen. Los Angeles. Chicago. It didn’t matter which he had no intentions of ending on a wall like this one. No that wouldn’t do. He’d gone as far as he could in his role as hidden hand and officer. No if he did more, he would surely be outed. If he did less, he would be burdened by his own sense of guilt. His guilt for not fulfilling his potential.
Smirking as he knew what he would do. And secretly silently thanking the two wolf beat cops who’d unknowingly forced his hand. Their bluster and threats of blackmail was impetus enough. He was not naturally a joiner and their threats had actually landed though not in the way they believed. So he marched into the Lieutenants office. Sat quietly as the woman handled her calls. When she motioned curiously signifying what did he want. He ignored the childish impetus of flipping her the bird. In stead he waited clasping his hands in his lap and forcing himself calm. Placid. As deep and still as an ocean at rest. He waited. Her frustration growing in equal opposite to the clam that fell over him.
Finally she’d had enough and told the fire chief she was attempting to consult with due a purported arson at hand of pyrokinetic she needed to call him back. The idea was farfetched highly unlikely but possible. ‘Chi-‘ she began cut off by him as he stood sampling saying," I quitI’ll get you the paperwork within the week. Take me off rotation.” Turning on his heel as she was rising to attempt talking or yelling him out of his relatively fool hardy decision. He didn’t bother turning back or responding simply kept right on out the door and kept going.
He knew she’d be petty and try something as such he made it home parked his car and called an taxi. Taxi as they’d accept cash and wouldn’t really keep track of anything as he’d give them an address near where he was going but not exactly there. He had some bit of payback to visit before sitting down to compose his letter of resignation.
