Sydney walked along a path within the park, with her happy puppy at her side. It was a 3 month old husky puppy that she had found on the side of the road. His big blue and brown eyes had called to her as many animals had before. When the puppy began to grow restless in her arms, she began a soft gentle hum. He was so young when she had found him; he had to be bottle fed. In the beginning he was very fussy, that was until she began to hum. Somehow at even three months old he was already following her. This puppy seemed to be one that she would possibly keep even though that never happened. As they walked along the path a nice cool breeze blew through her hair. All this caused her to do was skip and spin in a slight circle. Sydney let out a giggle that would have caused anyone’s attention to be caught. Generally she preferred to go to cemetarys but has yet to find one in the city of Chicago. She could not prevent the brilliant smile that spread across her face as she looked down at the puppy. “Let’s play a game.” She cooed to the young thing, watching as his tail began to wag. “Go find a stick.” With a happy yelp, the puppy ran off to find a stick. He knew that meant, let’s play fetch and the dog loved fetch. Sydney sat elegantly upon a park bench, looking every bit as if she belonged there. Her black hair blended in with the darkness of the night but the blue streaks popped out. Even if she had wanted to hide, the blue would have given her away. Maybe it was ridiculous but she never felt threatened. Sydney even had some human friends, ones that she would never feed on. Her prey was something completely different to her, they were food. Sydney’s head perked up as she heard her little puppy beginning to yap. Gliding off the bench, she began to move towards where he was barking. One of her thoughts was that if someone harmed her puppy, she’d kill them. Her boots made no sound on the ground; she did not want to tip whoever it was off, that she was there. With a wicked smile, she began to tense her body in case an attack was necessary. Attachments:

Eliachem had lain low making himself scarce. Sion was in a strange mood his distrust of the vampires in his own kiss causing him to do strange things even by Eliachem’s biased standards. He was happy to live and let live but knew that the pretender wouldn’t allow such an option. He knew it would be far more likely that he ended up killing Sion by drying him up. He’d tested the limits of his ability and knew that Sion was not even half that. Funny that especially as the poor man tried so very hard and had fought tooth and claw to get where he was. Eliachem unlike other vampires was happy to simply be. No need to have power it only made others seek to take it or use it for their own ends. He unlike others was actually appreciative to have what he did and cared only for what he’d gained by his efforts not one whit for what another gained. The only relative envy in his life came from those who were freer than he.
It was why he’d picked this night and one other to wander the city. The warmth was returning to the North and he would not miss these first few days of heat for the life of him. Sion and his spies be damned. Wandering aimlessly after such a vaunted feeding he stretched out his essence until it was as gossamer thin as a spider’s web. Most preternaturals practiced the arts of concealment by condensing and compacting their essences and auras into as small a space as possible. It was a fine tried and true method of concealing one’s own relative strength. The major drawback is it forced one to deaden ones senses as well. Eliachem preferred pushing his aura to its farthest thinnest point. It focused his attentions outward, There was no way a surprise could come open him. It was a three hundred sixty degree sphere of awareness. All the while giving the image of him being nothing more than a wild untrained omega. There wouldn’t be the tell-tale quiet that presaged the coming of a strong powerful vampire. It would be the leaking maelstrom of an omega. He liked surprising folks and often times the best way to test a potential ally or friend was with a bit of friendly deception.
He felt the young vampire nearest him miles before he saw her. He heard her pup blocks before he was near and smelled the bum that was trying to catch the pup for a meal from even farther. He laughed at the scene he heard playing out. The young vampire going quiet didn’t speak well of the homeless woman’s chances of being homeless or breathing another night. Flipping a coin mentally his better half won out. The city could use one less vagrant but who was he to play god. Moving with a speed born on the battle fields of the world he was upon the vagrant just as she corned the pup in a copse of trees. He was a cat person but a dog could be a fine hunting companion. Regretting what he would do to his gloves by touching the vagrant he sent a mental order towards her. She turned as he’d instructed moving opposite of the coming omega. Lifting the pup up by the scruff of its neck looking into its eyes he calmed its worries of fight and flight. A smile on his lips he turned so as his back was towards the vampire approaching and spoke to the pup. “You are a brave hunter though your breed doesn’t do such things anymore. Perhaps that will change. Especially with such a silent and deadly master.”

Sydney moved as quickly as she could to get to her puppy. The left over scent of the bum was still lingering but that one was no longer a problem. When she came up to where the puppy was, she saw the vampire holding him. For some odd reason the vampire had his back turned towards her. Even if he was a not a strong vampire, he would have sensed her. He would have been easy to attack as he stood there but he was holding her puppy. First she would have him place her pup down then she’d attack. Crouching, she began hissing her fangs flashing in the dark. “Put him down.” Her tone was commanding and angry. She could feel the hum of rage rushing through her body. When the vampire would turn around she would not appear as dangerous as she felt. Being in a black ankle length skirt and a little tank top, the idea of dangerous tends to be far from one’s mind.
She wanted to rip the vampire’s fingers off his hand one by one, and then other body parts. The sadistic side of her was slowly beginning to enjoy the idea of harming the vampire. To her it would be more fun than not. From the feeling of the vampire, he was not that old or powerful. She was young though and could easily be very wrong. Truth was her strength as a vampire was medicore at best. She was still so new and fresh at being a vampire that her strength was only beginning to build. It did not matter how strong he was in comparison to her, he was threatening her puppy. That was enough for her to risk her little life attempting to kill him.
When it came to Sydney one of the best ways to enrage her was threaten an animal. Especially one she was currently housing and caring for. The only way that the situation was made worse, was the fact that this puppy wormed his way into her heart. He was the only animal she had cared for that made her want to keep them. She knew her little man would grow up into a strong and powerful dog. That made him more special than any other animal, he complimented her. Her puppy was currently dangling in his hand, calm as can be. She wanted her puppy safe and sound in her arms where he belonged. Sydney’s eyes clearly spoke of her worry for the puppy and the rage she felt towards the vampire. She was already quite horrible at hiding the way she felt. Normally she is a happy go lucky woman that loves meeting new people, right now she was enraged. Impatiently she waited for him to turn around and place her boy down.

Stroking the puppy that he now knew had spent a large amount of its time around vampires. Eliachem spoke over his shoulder without turning. The aggression was rolling off the young vampire in waves. He smiled remembering how he was so initially enamored with the power and strength he’d had upon becoming damned. It was a rush at least until he felt the sting of the lash and the strength of older more powerful vampires. “I’d prefer not. Especially as it seems as if you’d like nothing more than to engage in a bit of fisticuffs or some other form of aggressive play. That’s not my bag. We’re not comic book characters we don’t have to beat each other into friendship.” Eliachem shrugged continuing to stroke the pup who was devouring the attention as if it would never have enough of his touch. He could understand her worry as for some he knew that such a beast would be but a juicebox to tide them over until they could take from a proper vein. Of course he wasn’t that desperate the only time he’d been forced to drink from an animal was many long years in the distant past.
As the roiling scent of her emotions wafted to him. He inhaled deeply gauging her age by the cast off ether of her inner afflictions. He smirked thinking of the best and then the most direct way to dissuade her of such behaviors. While he was the black hand of the current and soon to be Kiss he also felt that it was the responsibility of those more learned to educate. Shrugging he crouched lowering the pup to the ground as it looked quizzically at him then the vampire it had obviously taken as its master. Absorbing her aggression it began yapping even as it wagged its tail attempt to play. Staying crouched he turned towards her. He considered the look of her. She was a waif of a girl not much older than her teens. It was obvious that she was not just newly turned she still had a slight rosy hue to her cheeks.
Eliachem himself wasn’t a towering display of aggression but he was considerably more powerful. He wasn’t a fool nor a blowhard so he stood to his full height slowly. Taking as much time as he could to protract his rise he retracted his aura from its extended range allowing it fall over the area as if it were night itself. “ Although if you would prefer we can in fact try our hand at whatever… sort of friendship you’d think best would fit this situation.” Offering her an out he fixed her with a dead gaze allowing the blue of his pupils to slowly fill the entirety of eye with a blue flame so rich and vibrant as to seem to radiate its own heat.

Sydney stood stock still as the vampire began to pet her puppy. He was being rather gentle with Shinju and that surprised her. It made her stop for a moment and hesitate, as well as, cock her head to the side. Shinju was certainly eating up the attention the male was giving him. That was strange in and of itself, since he really did not like strangers touching him. Her attention was removed from the male’s attention to her puppy and was placed on his words. Sydney’s eyebrow lifted delicately as he talked about beating each other into friendship. Slowly her eyes blinked in confusion, did he really just say they would beat each other into friendship? Who said they would be friends? His comment about the comic book characters drew a light giggle from her. “Comic book characters?” Her confusion could be heard quietly clearly in her voice.
When the vampire began to put down her puppy, her entire body tensed up. Sydney was prepared for an attack. Now that Shinju was safely on the ground, she would not attack the vampire first. That did not mean the vampire had no intentions of attacking her though. Rolling her eyes lightly at Shinju’s playful antics, she called to him. “Shinju come.” Happily the puppy pranced his way over to her, making her sigh. Sometimes her puppy just made her have a headache. She never moved from her position as the male began to turn his body around. He was staying on the ground in his knelt form, whether that was to be able to attack her or defend himself, she was not sure. Yet another shock rippled through her as she stared at him. Sydney could not help but notice how striking the male was. His hair was dark and faded into the night. She could easily ignore that part of him it was his eyes that caught her attention. They were such a beautiful blue shade that it put her color in her hair to shame. She swallowed hard as he began to stand to his full height he went slowly, perhaps trying to give her a sense of security. She stayed tensed right up until she began to feel his power begin to fall. Her eyes closed as the wash of it filled her senses, he was strong and she would be no match against him. Aggravation filled her as she realized her bad luck; of course she had to threaten a vampire like him.
“Well the good news is I’m not as stupid as I feel.” Sydney’s tone showed her annoyance. “There is no point in us fighting unless you plan on hurting Shinju or myself.” At this point she rolled her eyes and sighed. “It would not be much of a fight anyways. You’d kill me.” She may be a bit crazy but she was not a complete idiot. She knew when she was outranked and no match for an opponent. That did not mean if he tried to attack herself or Shinju she would not do her best. With slow movements she relaxed her form and did a cute curtsy. “I am Sydney and that is Shinju.” Even during her curtsy she was always prepared for an attack.

Eliachem watched as recognition dawned on her yes dear Virginia if things turned antagonistic she would be on the team that wouldn’t be moving on to the next round. Sad but true and he was sure that underneath the youthful indiscretion was someone worth living a few more nights. It was a good thing that amongst the undead he was so progressive. Others would have taken her posture as what it was a threat and responded accordingly. Ignorance was no excuse to most in fact it was usually a reason to exact a toll. He wasn’t that sort. What sort he was he was still in the process of working out. Never before had he the opportunity to breathe for himself. To be whoever or whatever he wanted. Up until recently he had been bound and obligated to do things. Now here he was free to think and do as he saw fit. “Yes comic book characters. Even when two good guys meet they have to exchange a few blows as a way of showing how skilled they are. It’s a staple of the medium. Just like its mandatory in Science Fantasy for all of the gathered groups to meet in a bar or tavern of sorts. As we aren’t in a bar I thought comic book characters. Either that or actors in a romantic comedy.” Her confusion could be heard quietly clearly in her voice.
Watching her even as his thoughts tumbled upon themselves tripping over their own divergence he absorbed the name of her pup. Shinju, it meant pearl or belief, acceptance of truths. He’d read it on a sushi menu some years ago and it stuck with him. “That is an interesting name for a pup what made you choose it?” He could see himself training a dog much like those he had during his living years. Of course he’d have to train them towards a near completely nocturnal cycle but that was an easy enough task. He wasn’t even truly sure he would stay in this city. He was able to breathe on his own that meant the world could be his oyster. He could in fact go wherever he chose. He knew he wouldn’t even as the thought was a captivating one. He would make the city his own. He might even take his duties to heart and make a true go of things.
“Not to sound too old but frustration is the foundation of growing wisdom.” He said his voice as calm and even as it had always been. “Men who plan only do so to make God laugh. It’s why the best plans are those that concern only the moment you reside in. Taking aim however is a plan of a heartbeat.” Eliachem smiled scrupulously showing no fang. He was feeling divergent and strangely free this evening. “As for killing you. No not at all. Just because you can do a thing doesn’t mean you have to. There’d be no way for you to learn from your error if I ended you. Not to mention that there are so many worse things than death. I spent my first 70 or so years learning that and those lessons you never forget. ” He knew his voice dropped deathly quiet and did his best to lighten the growing mood by smiling. He was sure it had the opposite effect but he tried all the same. “Oh and for the record I am Eliachem. In this day and age I’ve heard it shortened to Eli or even Chem ” He responded returning her curtsy with a bow. He even gave her a free shot to run or attack if she chose by taking his eyes off her as he did so.

Sydney watched him curiously as he obviously thought about something. Her eyebrow lifted as he looked over at her puppy just once. Shinju was currently attempting to chase his tail and failing. Finally with an exaggerated plopping sound the puppy gave up. She would have been laughing at him if she was not so nervous. With a cock of her head, she tried to remember why it was Shinju became his name. “I honestly do not know. It just came to me when he was sleeping in my arms.” As she began to smile, she looked at her young puppy. Even though it was not intelligent to remove her eyes from the male, she knew it would not make a difference. For one thing he seemed to be lost in his own world for the moment.
Sydney gave off a giggle when he mentioned being old. She knew he was probably pretty ancient but he did not appear so. A small blush rose up on her cheeks as she began to notice how attractive he was. His blue eyes drew her in like a moth to a flame, pulling her deeper and making her more curious. “You certainly do not sound old.” She smiled at him back at him when he went on to explain not killing her. There was a large sense of joy that filled her when he bowed. Normally others would simply stare at her strangely, they never responded with a bow. As the sense of giddiness filled her, she lightly skipped over to him.
When Chem began to lift his head up towards her, she grabbed his hand. “Come.” Sydney whispered to him in a sweet manner. With that she began to lead him over to where she saw the swing set to be. “If you are as old as you say, that would mean you have not played in a long time.” She gave him a brilliant smile that lit up her green eyes. Shinju was happily following behind them with his tail wagging. As they moved into the section where the swing set was, she did an elegant little spin. “Come play with me.” Grasping his hand once more, she drew him to the swings and lightly pushed him into a swing seat. She moved over to the other swing and sat down on it. “So why are you in the park?” Slowly she began to kick her legs, moving the swing and herself.

As he felt her moving churning up the ground with her fledgling speed he tensed for a nanosecond preparing to dissuade her from moving so quickly. In the thousandth of a second he saw her trajectory he felt her intent and relaxed into her approach. He surprised himself and allowed her to lead him to a ‘Play’ area. It was a jumble of plastic, thin metal, and wood that felt to him unfinished. It was enclosed loosely by a pressed metal fence that looked as half done as the rest of things. He took everything from the plasticized wood chips provided to minimize injury to the scaled down faux risk of the creaky bridge spanning an amazing distance of approximately six feet. Play indeed while this was designed for children he found himself mentally correcting the deficits of design. There was no reason that the aesthetic could not be pleasing and engaging to children all in one breath.
“Maybe that’s a better story than one could hope there you were with this handsome pup in your arms and the muses provided you with acceptance so thus was his name slipped into your mind. That or some master decided to take even more control over you by dictating subtly even one who would provide you with pleasure. Most masters wouldn’t but I know more than a handful who would do that and worse.” He said his voice holding some far off cast. Yes he knew masters that would dictate everything form the time of rising to dress. It was a sad facet of vampire society that even amongst the nearly immortal that there were those that could stomach nothing less than total domination.
He found her youth very endearing somehow. She was close enough to the pulse of this age that she still held the blush and bloom of her mortal time. He guessed that she was newly dead. Definitely within the last five years. “As for my age I am older than many and younger than most with the same level of skill.” There was something about her that triggered a yearning nostalgia as well as an envy he didn’t know existed in him. He wanted her… youth. He wanted to be a part of the current times without merely pretending. He wanted it without taking on the guise of the modern through affectation and pretense. Wants however were not needs and he wouldn’t trade his power though small for anything in the world.
Mimicking her he began swinging enjoying the simple movement of grounded controlled flight. This he could see being a huge draw to the children who came here. He could see them cueing up to take turns. Bustling for the chance to soar if only briefly. It brought an honest smile to his face. “I’m here because of hunger and in the defense of those that might not be able to defend themselves.” He thought on how he phrased his coming and knew that it sounded grandiose. It was the truth for why he was in this park at the same time as she but it was a bit much phrased so. “So this is play…” He asked teasingly. “It is ... novel though I assumed something more fitting of a need for censorship. Perhaps I am more jaded than I thought, or not” He punctuated his statement by kicking in the upswing causing him to rise high enough for his fly to flutter in the breeze caused. “Of course I could be here simply because of a boredom with everything else at this moment…”.

Sydney relaxed back in her swing, going gentle so she would not go too high. Shinju was back to chasing his own tail. She laughed as the puppy fell on his face again. When she was a human she had loved parks, not that she remembers. Currently she preferred cemeteries but she had not found one within the city she likes. She shifted her view over to Chem. Without intending to she began to check him out, a bright blush staining her cheeks. Her hand curled around the chains tighter. Normally she did not look at males in this way, not since her creator.
Sydney frowned as he mentioned a master taking control over her. She lightly shrugged her shoulders. “I think it just came to me honestly. I have not met many masters. My creator was a master but he could care less.” There was pain in her voice when she spoke of her creator. After all she had loved him before she left him. To her it was highly unlikely that he would ever come around her again. From the way Chem sounded though, it was something he had gone through. Again she frowned as she thought of this male being kept under control.
“Somehow I am sure your skill is quite impressive.” Sydney would not even realize the flirtatious tone in her voice. When she looked over at him, his eyes were staring at her in a peculiar way. Yet again without intending to, she blushed. Those deep blue eyes were like a calling to her. She felt drawn to him; perhaps it was because he seemed older. He appeared powerful and she was attracted to that. Strong men had always pulled Sydney in, she always wanted the man that when she fought him, he could put her down. Clearing her throat hard, she diverted her thoughts. She felt a sense of joy as she watched him beginning to swing.
Sydney formed a sadistic smile at the thought of feeding. When they were done on the swings, she would have to go with him hunting. The twisted part of her wanted to see what he was like hunting. Her eyes gained a sparkle imaging him with blood dripping down his chin. Somehow she thought he would be extremely sexy looking that way. She blinked and held off a giggle after realizing he also said protecting others. She lifted an eyebrow but decided to leave her sarcastic comment to herself. Again the bright blush formed on her cheeks. “Well normally I don’t play with someone during the first night.” She gave him a dorky little wink. “I have no problem with killing your boredom dear sir.” With that she moved quickly from her swing to tackle him off his. It was a playful tackle and she knew he would pick up on that.

The quiet was filled with her thoughts and his. He pretended to not notice her consideration of him. It was the polite thing to do she was not obvious and so he allowed her the looks. He himself made avail of the quiet consideration to take in the rebellious beauty of her look. Questions came to mind namely her lovely shade of blue was it an affectation she had to maintain nightly or was it set in stone as unchanging as her flesh now that she was one of the damned. He like most men had a type and if the hair beneath the color was dark she would fit his archetype. Of course most women did beauty was a thing he enjoyed the full width and breadth of whenever he could be holding it in his grubby hands. A smirk fell to his face as his he allowed the childish wit of his thoughts to amuse him.
As she tensed to pounce he assessed the threat possible in her and dismissed them all in one breath. Instead of reacting more towards his own martial background he moved into the blow allowing her to bowl them both over. He took no small care to insure that they did not become caught in the chain of the swing. “Boredom… is far more immortal than any of us the best we can do is lull it to sleep for a spell. “ He joked as he wrapped his arms around her pulling her into him a hairs breath form a kiss he spoke to her his voice taking on the essence of a whisper. He had heard the care and concern in her voice as well as the remembered pain so he did his best to insure that the dark at the edge of memory didn’t sour her mood. “I am honored to have you play with me on our first outing but dear I must warn you that I have fed and my play might just have you become addicted to me or vice versa I am not sure which but I am willing to find out.”
Smiling as he allowed his more lusty thoughts to surface along with the physical reminder of his threat or promise he rested his head against hers. She was a small thing and her all too human joy and warmth was still present. He knew as he held her with her aura mingling with his that his first appraisal was accurate. She was a fresh member amongst the damned. He reminded himself to not drink her youth and warmth. To not jade her to what could be by exposing her too much to what was. He however unless she pulled away had every intention of tasting her lips daring her to keep up with his merry chase.
