This site is based on the fiction of Laurell K. Hamilton derived from information gleaned from both fan fiction sites Lukoi and Sinful Ties. There have been some extrapolations made but for the most part it is well within the established canon of her works.
Chicago...Home of a population of over three million people. Chicago...A city of lights. Chicago...The City of Wind.
The city...the tall buildings...the remaining stockyards...a place where no sane person leaves home without protection...it is not only corrupt but thoroughly honest and unapologetic in its corruption.
Chicago, home of the vampires who thirst for acceptance as well as blood. Chicago, home of the lycans who struggle against the beasts within... Chicago, home of the magical fey whose powers know no bounds... Chicago, home of the witches and supernatural beings who crave power.
The setting is present day Chicago, Illinois. It is a city that has recently been rocked by a purging of the supernatural community. None of the powers that be are sure exactly what transpired. Unsure of what caused the recent troubles they are sure of one thing... Chicago is once again habitable to their kind. As such the city is in the middle of a land grab the likes of which hasn't been seen since the westward expansion. The first casualties appear to be the local Streak as the other clans have their hands at the throats of those who lust for power. Everyone wants their fair share and the city is in uproar as the dust begins to settle...
Chicago has a strange metaphysical elegance of death about it. - - - Claes Oldenburg

Chicago...Home of a population of over three million people. Despite what is known Chicago is not the only corrupt City; It is not the Second City; It is not even a distinctly solely American City. It was all those things once and maybe will be again. Chicago is Chicago. It has always had a strange affinity of death about it. It has always had its own elegance. A certain way that a hog butchered here was a 'Chicago' butchered hog. Its broad shouldered way of doing things was as distinctive as a Marshall Fields Gabardine over coat. But this last year death has come to roost in its winter home. The death toll skyrocketed as the value of both life and the dollar plummetted. Monsters roamed both the light of day and the darkest nights. Chicago's Underworld the vast nebulous entity that was as eponymous as an american made car in detroit took several major hits. The canvas had been torn. The Capo de Capo's of the family that held reign with an iron fist... sent to the next world in a blaze of glory.
The beleagured and beset officers of Chicago's RPIT being threatened with Federal Intervention. Their numbers dwindled to a emaciated levels.
The Lycanthropes scrabbling for cohesion while maintaining their anonymity. Losing their way beneath the weight of disappearances, debacles, and deaths.
The Fae seeking a voice lost to their own machinations.
All the while the Undead sit behind their ivory castles watching as the city broils like the runoff of a charnel house. Their is a plan afoot but will anyone survive the coming storms of winter.
Welcome to Chicago... Arm yourself.

The city was in chaos, the clans were dispersing either because of repeated attacks or because they were being killed off by an invading force from Detroit. Chicago was burning and the Andrius and his court seemingly did nothing, they sat in their gilded homes and watched the city fall apart around them. When the Vampire Counsel learned of the happenings in Chicago they sent in a force of their own with a two-fold mission. First on the agenda was to hold Chicago, defend it from the invaders and fortify the city, beat back the rabble and send them scurrying for home. Second on their list of things to do was root out the Master of the City and bring him to heel, make him regret his decision to do nothing while his precious city fell apart around him.
This is what the henchmen did, first they drove out the beasts and vampires that had come to Chicago, sent them running for home with their tails between their legs. Then they went in search of the errant Master and his unambitious brood. They found them and either killed them outright, or in the case of the Master they put them in coffins wrapped with cross covered chains as punishment. That is where our former Master of the city still lingers, to this day. Then they planted their own puppet as Master and tried to put the city to rights. Time has passed, the city has found a modicum of peace, and has started to recover. New leaders are on the rise; the current Master grows bored and wished to go home. New plots are afoot, what will happen to the City of Wind now? Only those behind the many schemes know the outcome. The rest of us, well we will have to wait and see. Synposis by Rayvan Wolfbaen

Master of the City Timeline
Although not the first vampire (nor master vampire) in Chicago, Mary Adams was the city's first recognized vampiric Master of the City in 1849. She influenced the early growth of the city into a metropolis before her death during the Great Fire of 1871, and her replacement by Rickard the Dreaded.
Rickard was killed and replaced in 1958 by Luciano Draak, who was the MotC for Chicago for much of the 20th century. Fearing what the 21st century might bring, Luciano was killed or disappeared midway through 1999, supposedly cursing future MotCs to never last, and leaving no immediate replacement.
Months later, December 1999 and Sion (a Padme vampire, focusing on wolves) was the MotC. He was apparently on good terms with Katrina, and he handed off the office to her in December 2008. She found the office didn't suit her, as she was MotC during the route by the Council. Sion reclaimed the office until November 2013 when he was defeated by, Isadora (a Padme vampire, focusing on Snakes).
What isn’t known by most and spoken of by even fewer was that the true power in Chicago had resided with a being known as Andrius. Each time the Council attempted to defeat him he would return stronger and more determined. This last laying low of Andrius seems permanent that remains to be seen…
