Cord looked out into the hopefully soon bullpen... "Honestly take anyof the open desks your call until this ball of madness gets going. As I was telling your partner there are big shakeups in the works. Coffee is through that door that says water don't let it know you're scared and you will be fine."
Cord stood back a bit ghosting Mayhew and Wolfbaens approach to the door he'd indicated as where the coffee hid. It was the only piece of the current setup that Cord would not change. He waited patiently for one of the two to open the door and witness the behemoth of a coffee maker waited within. It was affectionately called the beast. Inside were two industrial sized Mcdonalds coffeemakers. They'd been wired in as a gift from a thankful regional manager years ago and Cord hadn't bothered to remove them even after maintenance complained about the water line and electricity divergence. The coffee however was Starbucks seasonal blend cut with Dunkin Donuts best roast. In other words liquid crack cut with a little mary jane...

Rayvan pushed open the door to the 'coffee' room and her eyes almost bugged out of her head, "Damn, I could fit in one of those big bastards." Then she blushed scarlet at her outburst, "At least we won't fall asleep." She chuckled and moved out of the way so that Chance could follow her into the room and behold the behemoths that they called coffee makers.
"You sure that thing won't eat me boss," then she turned and in her best mock fierceness, "And don't think for a minute that I'm making ya'lls coffee either." But she ruined the whole effect with an impish grin and twinkling emerald eyes.

The Captain’s words peaked Chances curiosity, but the opening of the door had his nostrils flaring as the smell of coffee wafted out. Then Rayven moved, and he saw the thing. His eyes widened and he swallowed hard. “Do we sacrifice virgins to it, or just our firstborn children?”
He moved toward the beast, grabbing up a chair. “Back, damn it. Back, I say.” He brandished the chair like an old-time lion tamer, snarling in mock fierceness. Then he dropped the chair and pulled an old heavy coffee mug out of the stack and shoved it under the spout. “I think I’m in love…”

Cord watched Mayhews eaasygoing manner. He had to admit the man gained high marks for being able to keep a sense of humor. According to the paperwork he'd been a decorated officer for some time. Cord would keep the rest of what he knew to himself. He did find it humorous that he'd grabbed the mug of Cords one time CO. Easing away he'd let Wolfbaen and Mayhew get to know each other while he went over the fine print for RPITs new largesse.
There was a a rat in denmark and he'd at least like to know where it was burrowing in from. There were two calls waiting for him as he settled behind his desk. The first was His wife setting up his visiitation and reminding him of his sons game. The second was the gaurd he'd placed at the hospital letting him know that Crusinski was being released...early.
Weighing how helpful or how much of a hindrance that news would become Cord closed the file before him and began going over the information that D'arcangelo had given him. It was worth its weight in gold. He'd trade it to robbery homicide to gain a favor which it looked as if RPIT might need if the dots lined up as he thought.

Rayvan couldn't help but laugh at Chance, he reminded her a lot of her brother Ramone, back in their younger years, before things all went wrong. She shook that thought out of her head, and reached for an empty coffee mug. moving up next to Chance she playfully bumped him over and filled her mug then doctored it with enough sugar to choke a horse. "Alright boss, it's seems as if we have been left to our own devices so want to get started? What's in the file?"
She sipped the hot liquid, and moved to an empty chair, turning it backward she straddled it and leaned her arms on the back holding the cup between her hands. She wasn't too worried about touching things, her clairvoyance was hit and miss at best, she still hadn't figured out what caused ti to spark sometimes. As far as her telepathy she had her shields were clamped as tight as she possibly could hold them to keep out errant thoughts. She noticed the gloves on Chance's hands, "Touch clairvoyant?"

Chance was tempted to pretend to stagger, but decided it was time to get down to business with his new ‘trainee’. He smiled at her as he snagged the sugar out of her hand and dumped in just enough to cut the bitterness of the coffee. Like most cops, he could drink his coffee any way he found it, but this was his preference. He followed her to the table and sat, sliding the file toward her. He was curious as to her first impressions. That would say a lot about her instinct as a cop.
He noticed her glance at his gloves. “Clairsentient, actually. Location based. Keep it quiet for now, though. Don’t need people looking at me like I’ve got two heads.” He was still a little bitter about the Portland thing. Sure, they’d have let him stay, but not his were coworkers.

Rayvan grinned when he snatched the sugar from her, and fought the urge to stick out her tongue at him like she would have her brother if he had done the same thing. An inward sigh, it had only been a few weeks and already she missed her brother terribly. Maybe someday she would get to see him again, but she wasn't going to hold her breath. He had seemed well adjusted and happy when she saw him last.
Rayvan popped open the file and scanned down the page, her expression never changing, except for a slight tightening of her brows and her bottom lip being sucked between her teeth. Those were more signs of deep concentration than anything else though. Raising her head she looked at Chance, emerald green eyes sincere when she spoke. "Clairsentient? Interesting, and your secret is safe with me. Trust me I get the looks too when someone finds out I'm a telepath and sometimes clairvoyant, mostly with touch. You have nothing to worry about from me." She remembered all the looks people gave her, from disgust to terror, to outright disbelief when they found out her secret.

He nodded, fiddling with his mug, the thin, skin tight gloves looking out of place inside the building. “I get some precog sometimes, too, but I never know when. That’s the part I hate.”
This might actually work if she was half as good as she said she was. She had guts, that was sure. Those who had the gift either got tough or ended up in a rubber room. Chance had no preconceptions about trainees. He’d seen the most unlikely candidates make good cops while some of the mach types turned out not to be able to cut it.
“So why RPIT? I mean, most cops start out in regular departments and then end up here, for one reason or another. Few start out in the spook squad.”

Rayvan took a drink of her coffee and went back to perusing the file in front of her, "Yeah I get hate that, unless I'm shielding so hard I can't hear myself think I have a chance of having flashes and it catches me off balance at times. " Emerald eyes clouded for minute while she thought about how to answer his question, "Well, mostly because I am a spook I guess, I studied about preternaturals in college, and then later found out that me twin brother had become one. He was attacked be a wereleopard, so I figured it was a sign." She gave a small one shouldered shrug.
She put her finger on the file and raised her eyes, "So this John Doe was found just sitting on the back of the bus? And it from all accounts had been there some goodly while, why didn't anyone notice? The driver says he didn't remember seeing the man get on the bus and that there was an awful stench. What do ya make of that?" She thought that was rather odd, not completely unheard of but not the norm either, she wondered if it meant something or if she was just reading too much into it. How could hundreds of people get on and off that bus and not notice they were riding with a dead man?

Chance nodded. “I figured that might be it. Me, I grew up with the monsters at family picnics. My dad taught Preternatural sociology, so he knew most of them in our area. RPIT just made sense for me, I guess, though I didn’t start out there. But I did start out on the ground floor of RPIT in Portland. That’s where I’m from.”
He changed his attention to the file. “Whoever put him there knew what they were doing. Who notices a man sleeping on a city bus? What bothers me is how he got there. Did someone kill him there or was he placed there after the fact?”
