She hadn't meant to kiss him, she knew it was wrong. She knew it wouldn't help their situation any, but she hadn't been able to resist. She had never been able to resist Hiero, he had drawn her in like a comet caught in the gravitational pull of a sun. She heard him say her name but her brain was in a fog, the first touch of his lips had sent her spiraling, knocked off her equilibrium and she felt like the rooms was spinning. Each subsequent kiss had made her less and less aware of her surroundings. His voice had reached into that fog and and tried to bring her back to reality. She struggled against the pull, wanting to stay buried in the feelings he inspired within her. She wanted to stay in the curve of his arms and forget the real world. Ray wanted to hold on to the moment, she wanted to hold on to him. It wasn't until he deprived her of his lips and buried his face in her neck that she was able to fully come around and pull back from him. She laid both hands on the crook of his arms and laid her head on his shoulder, trying valiantly to regain her breath and slow her heart rate. She closed her eyes and stood there a moment while she collected herself. She sighed and nodded though she didn't raise her head. The hot flush she felt creeping up her neck told her all she needed to know about the blush that was staining her cheeks. She couldn't believe what she had done, she couldn't believe she had threw herself at him like she had. What was wrong with her? Then his words sank in and made the blush deepen further. “I'm sorry, of course, you must be starved....just just...” She pushed herself back, trying to put distance between them. “Just let me grab my purse...” Ray took two steps back, kept her head down, and started to turn back to her room. Then she realized she hadn't let go of her grip on his arms. With a small jerk she let go. She was afraid to look at him, afraid of what he would see, afraid of what she would see. It was the perfect awkward moment. A moment where she wasn't sure what to say, especially after how she had so recently acted, and she had no idea what to do next other than what she said she would. She turned and reached inside her hotel room and grabbed her purse off the top shelf above the closet area. “I'm ready. Let's go get you some thing to eat.”

Enjoying the blush to her cheeks even as it was a look he hadn’t witnessed in her. Wrapping his arms around her. “I need you…in my life.” Kissing her on her lips even as he tried to touch something deep inside her. Raising her into his arms he kissed her with every ounce of love for her he could find in his heart. He had come all this way to say goodbye. He’d come all this time to give closure to what had been. Yet in the here and now he wanted her. He really did want her in his life. He knew it was foolishness. He knew he was fantasizing. Yet the allure of her was a spell he could not resist. “You won’t need your purse. You won’t need anything save me for the next few whiles.” He growled as his lips broke with hers only long enough to speak before returning to the task of expressing how badly he needed her. “Say yes… Oh god just say yes.” He whispered remembering their night at Sonotheque. It was their last outing before the foxes invaded her home. They were supposed to meet Ramone that night instead they’d entertained themselves until the sun rose. Taxing even his own lycanthropic stamina. He knew it wasn’t fair asking this of her but he needed to be what she craved. He needed in this night to be her full strength. Her mantle her protection her shield not merely her avenging spirit. [/ul] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Wardobe[/ul]

Ray should have remembered how quietly he could move when he wanted to, she should have prepared herself for the possibility that he might follow her those few steps into her motel room. But with her brain still caught in a dizzying spin from his kisses and the sensation of being his arms again, she hadn't remembered, hadn't been prepared so that when she turned back around expecting him to still be several feet away she had to catch her breath at his closeness. She could see the breadth of his chest, the solidity of his arms, and she felt her insides turning molten. There was only a hairsbreadth between them, barely enough room for a spear of light to dart through the gap. His voice was deep with a purr, but with just the edge of a growl to it. It made her heart trip in her chest, rolling over and then started pounding double time. Somehow she knew that the conversation had just changed dramatically even with the words that still bespoke of food. “...Me too.” She didn't resist when he pulled her into his arms, instead her suddenly nerveless hands dropped her purse, then her hands went around his neck as her head tilted back to look into his face. He needed her? After everything, he still needed her? She fell into his kiss, her eyes sliding shut. When he lifted her she clung to him, instinctively wrapping her legs around his waist. She never wanted to be away from him again, she didn't want to have to go back to Miami and leave him behind, her heart ached at the thought. He needn't have worried about touching something deep within her, as soon as she realized he was outside his door he had touched the deepest part of her soul. Brought it back to life, pulled her back from the brink of annihilation. “Hiero....” What could she say to that? She needed him in her life too, she always had, even when she had left his. But how could she say that? How could she tell him that without him she wasn't the same? She wasn't a complete person without him, her other half. She knew that but she didn't know how to put it into words, especially after everything that had happened. “Purse?” Her brain was so fogged she had completely forgotten where they were going, or why. She had never needed anything but him. “You're all I've ever needed....” Her voice shook as she tried to calm her breathing. She took a deep breath and dived back into his kisses, preferring the head rush that he was causing her to clear thought, preferring to live in the moment rather than worry about tomorrow. It would happen, regardless of how she wanted time to stand still. She could let herself be free for one night, to revel in the love she felt for him and the love she now knew he still had for her. He wanted her, she wanted him, why wouldn't she say yes? “Yes, Hiero. Please yes....” How could she say no, when they both wanted each other so badly? How could she resist him now? She had never been able to resist him before, she had never wanted to, she still didn't. There was just something about him that called to her in a way that broke down all her barriers and brought her to a place she never wanted to leave.

He wanted her he really and truly wanted to have her in his life. The time between their first meeting and now was a thing to overcome but if she felt the same as he it was a small thing. He would go about this as forthright as he could. He would present his case. He would offer honestly what he could. The city needed him. He wasn’t sure how long it would need him or if even there would be an after. He knew however he couldn’t leave the job half done. He wouldn’t as much as he wanted to the responsibilities of his life wouldn’t be left on another’s shoulders. Sabin wouldn’t inherit a mess from him nor would anyone else. It didn’t stop him from wanting her to share what there was of his life. It wasn’t fair to ask but he knew he would. He had to ask directly with no disseminations. He owed that much. “Come on.” He said after taking a moment to really appreciate the fact that they were here together. He’d spotted several restaurants on the way here they were nearby enough to walk should they choose. Forcing himself up by way of stealing another kiss he stood offering his hand to pull her to her feet. He’d come for closure and was contemplating so much else. It was funny the way fate worked. She had said yes, she had given in against her better judgment, taken the last leap into insanity. She had known she wasn't able to say no to him before she left Chicago. That was the main reason she had left in the dead of night, while he was busy elsewhere. She had known that if she told him he would have been able to talk her out of leaving, talk her into staying at his side and toughing it out. She had known then what she knew now, that they were a matched pair, neither whole without the other. But she hadn't been able to stay and keep him from doing what needed to be done. She reveled in his touch, his embrace, his love. She felt him moving and knew that he was making his way to her bed, she couldn't find it in her to complain or object. She wanted their joining more than anything she had ever wanted. Then the bed was pressing into her back and he rose above her, majestic, powerful, but so gentle. She wasn't afraid of his strength as he pinned her down to the bed. She was anything but afraid, she was excited, blown away, and totally at a loss to fight back, even if she had wanted to. She wanted to be a part of his life, she wanted him in hers. She would give everything she owned to be his and have him as hers. But she wouldn't ask him to give up that which he had worked so hard for, and she knew he couldn't turn away from the city that he had helped to secure. She wished that they could just forget for one night who and what they were and just enjoy the time they had together but his words told her that wasn't to be either. “We need to talk Belle. Let's get something to eat.”She could tell it was costing him to back away, not just from the look on his face but also his riotous emotions. She should have known it was too good to be true. But as he gave her distance she realized that though they were in her room, her door still stood wide open, her purse abandoned upon the floor near it. She had forgotten herself so completely that she hadn't even thought to close them in so that any passerby wouldn't see them. She was glad that he had the strength of will to separate them even if it did cost him much to do so. She certainly didn't have any willpower when it came to him, and the evidence was all around them. “Yes...okay... food, um...yeah.” She knew she was stammering like a fool but she honestly couldn't think of anything to say. She knew what he wanted to talk about, she wasn't sure what she could tell him. She knew she would have to avoid kissing him again if she was to keep her head about her, keep her wits intact. But then before he levered himself completely away from her he did just that, he kissed her again, and immediately her brain went soaring away, only to be wrenched harshly back when she felt his weight shift and slide away from the bed. Eat, talk. Yeah right. She blinked several times and tried to clear her head even as she reached up and took his hand, and rising from the bed. She pulled her hand free and reached up to rub the last traces of tears from her face, wiping trailed mascara away. Then she rubbed her hands on her jeans, a way for her to take her hand back from him and help her to concentrate on not jumping back into his arms like she so much wanted to do. “I.. I think I'm ready.” Her voice still shook with pent up emotions but she managed to maneuver around him and pick up her purse. She checked to make sure that she had her room key before she stepped out into the hall, if she stayed a step or two ahead of him she would be alright, she told herself. Or out of arms reach anyway. Even though that went against every fiber of her being to do so.

She had never figured that it would be so hard after such a long time, but it was. It was harder now to look him in the face and try to hide how much she loved him then it had been the day she left him. Perhaps it was because she had denied herself so fully of any thought of love during the interim that it was raking her across the coals now. She had loved Hiero from almost the first moment she had laid eyes on him in all his glorious maleness, and that feeling had only grown stronger over the time she had known him. She had tried to shut off the flow of that emotion when she left, and though she had dammed it up, she hadn't been able to kill the source, so once again she was drowning in that wonderful overwhelming need to be near him, to touch him, to hold him, to tell him how much she really loved him. She had pulled away from him only to be able to keep her head on straight until they had reached some form of public domain so she wasn't blatantly throwing herself at him like some harlot who needed a fix. They made their way from her room to the elevator with nary a word between them, her brain racing in circles, dancing around the one subject she was doing her best not to think about. Them together once more. Ray had long ago given up hope of being able to be with Hiero and be truly happy, the foxes had damaged that dream, among others. She had run to escape the realities of the life she had been leading, not just the fact that she was dating and in love with the Rex of the Pride, but the fact that her department had been in shambles, things had been going on that she knew wasn't above board, but she wasn't sure exactly what it was. She hadn't been able to pinpoint where the problem lay, but it had made her uneasy enough that she hadn't felt comfortable going to her boss about it. Now, most of those she had known in the department were long gone and moved on to other towns and other places, she would have a fresh start if she were to go back to Chicago. Wait....What?! What are you thinking Ray? She tried to shake the thought out of her head but it wouldn't go away, it kept rearing it's head and laughing at her, daring her to take that chance. Ray barely blinked at the empty elevator, she was too wrapped up in her own thoughts to realize that she was once again alone with Hiero in a small enclosed space, at least until she felt him pull her close. She couldn't help it, she simply melted into him, she closed her eyes, inhaled his scent and let herself go for the time it took them to ride the elevator to the first floor. She knew she was walking the tightrope twenty stories above ground and the wind was fierce enough to blow her off the tiny wire that she was trying to traverse. She just couldn't seem to stop herself, she had to brave the elements, the emotions, she had to, just for that small reward that was his presence. Then they were on the move again, headed out of the motel and down to the restaurant, people passing them by, cars rolling up and then away again on the street but none of them seemed important compared to the man at her side. They kept to their own thoughts until they were seated and Hiero had seen to it that they would be treated well. That was when he turned those beautiful eyes on her and dropped the bomb right at her feet. She shouldn't have been surprised, she had always known that Hiero was frank and to the point, he didn't see the need for any beating around the bush. Ray's heart flipped over, how was she supposed to answer that question? She knew how she wanted to answer it, she wanted to tell him that she would follow him where ever he led her. But could she really do that? Was she strong enough of heart to brave the lions den again? Yes, she was, if it meant that she was able to once again have him in her life. “By waking up together,” Was it as simple as that? “I have realized something in the last few years,” Ray fidgeted with a ring on her right ring finger, one of the few things that she still had that had belonged to her mother. She often toyed with it when she was nervous, “You can't run away from your problems, and you can't give up on the things you consider important. The problems will follow you, and the important things will haunt you, and I'm tired of running.” She looked at him with pleading eyes, begging him to forgive her for running out on him, for thinking that she could escape from the danger that came with being his woman. She had left him behind, but the danger had followed her, in different guises, with different faces, but it was always there, and she was always on the brink of destruction. The only difference had been, she had been alone, without a protector, without anyone who cared what happened to her. “I don't want to wake up alone anymore, Hiero. I don't want to wake up without you.” Okay, maybe it was corny, maybe it was overly sappy, but that was how she felt.

Takes place 01/15/2013 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - He couldn’t stop the smile that spread across his face. He couldn’t stop the sheer joy he felt vibrating through him. He took a few seconds which felt like years simply basking in the idea of having Rayvan back in his life. He thought of what to say what he needed. There was only one thing there was only one word that would fit. His smile permafrosted to his face Hiero met her green orbs taking in every iota of detail of this moment. He chiseled into his memory. If nothing was to come of it if he never had the actual joy of her he would have this moment. “I didn’t…”He began attempting to prolong the moment. It rang wrong to his ears. It felt heavy to his heart. Shaking his head he sat forward starting over. He looked to the table the place setting then back to her face. “Rayvan. Yes. Of course yes I want to wake up with you every morning. I am better with you in my life. As I look over the time without you I see that I missed things. Things get by me…Small things that snowball. I need you. I really do.Pausing as the waitress returned with a platter of appetizers. Leaning back his eyes all for Ray Hiero let the waitress carve out a space n the table between them for the platter. It was some cheese dish with crostini’s and a tomato bruschetta. Normally the olive oil based dis was one of Hiero’s favorites in the here and now it was backdrop to the most important moment in his recent life. It was a moment that hinged the future and promised the nostalgia of the past was made real. Her actions while practiced an done with a comfortable speed of muscle memory. To Hiero it seemed as if she was moving in slow motion, she was taking all day, she was a grandma doing fifteen in a seventy. Somehow he managed to keep from blowing his stack. He managed to hide his peevishness for her interruption of their moment behind a smoldering gaze that spoke of the things adults did when gaining the knowledge of each other’s company biblically.
