Don’t be flip. I’m about this far, from taking your throat out, and I really don’t want to do that. So excuse me if I don’t break my focus right now. Order whatever you want. I’ll buy. It’s the least I can do. You a student here?
As his cousins liked to remind him, Tore needed to learn when to keep his mouth shut. He really did. One day he might too. That or he would get himself killed like was the chance today. Tore shrugged as if the man's words didn't affect him. A lie of course, but not one he was going to admit to. "Not now or for a while either. I haven't ever gone to school. Don't have an transcripts in the first place. Kind of hard to attend school without those you know. And I'll yeild..." he ground those words out through his teeth. "Tore Swann...that's my name. Tore Swann." Tore turned to the food kiosk and looked at what they had. He had gained the habit of eating meat from his father. His mother tended to be a vegetarian. A think that Tore had trouble understand. Meat had a slightly addictive taste. "Just get me a smaller version of whatever you're having. I'm assuming you're going to want more than I will."

“Okay, Tore, good.” Thorn ordered burgers for them both, three for him and two for the kid… Tore. He gave the young man a raised eyebrow. “How’d you manage to get past the mandatory schooling thing? Hell, even I went to school.” And then he shut up. He’d said the wrong thing here, not that it mattered. He had several hours yet before his meeting with his chosen victim for his scam.

Tore smirked at the man's reply. It hadn't been that hard to get past the mandatory schooling. Of course that was the advantage of being with the wereswans. "Yes well you weren't born a were. I was. We do things a little differently. It's called home schooling. I would have taken my GED, but circumstances dictated otherwise."
Tore stopped himself He didn't need to say anything more. He was smarter than that. His dad had taught him better. You kept your secrets or you were screwed. Otherwise his father wouldn't be a wereswan in the first place. Then again if his father hadn't been curse, Tore wouldn't have born. He couldn't regret that in the least. Why would he? He liked existing even if he did have to make an effort at it.

“Yeah, well, you might say I was, too, in a way, though I did spend a bit of time in the public schools. Did all right for myself, I’d say.” He tugged briefly at the expensive suit, there being no way that the kid could know he spent more time in jeans and a T-shirt.
“So, what are you wanting to take at the University?” He was trying to be polite and keep his mind on the burger and not the swan in front of him. But he caught the undercurrent there. The kid wasn’t being very forthcoming, not that Thorn blamed him. After all, he wasn’t either. Hell he hadn’t even given the kid a name.

Yeah, well, you might say I was, too, in a way, though I did spend a bit of time in the public schools. Did all right for myself, I’d say. So, what are you wanting to take at the University?
Tore laughed at the man's assumption. "Just because someone is walking somewhere doesn't mean that they're necessarily there for the services required. I'm here because I couldn't sleep is all. Trust me, if I had it my way, I would still be in bed. Unfortunately, I'm not that lucky." Tore desperately wished he could go back to sleep. He was tired. He couldn't sleep though. He knew that. His mind was far too active for it. Twas an unfortunate event for him, but he couldn't do anything about it but try to function on the little amount of sleep that he had gained.

Thorn laughed then. “That’s true. I’m certainly not here to take classes.” Then he frowned. “You’re far to young to have trouble sleeping. Leave that to those of us who have reason.”
Why was he talking to this kid? Oh, yeah. To keep from munching on him. “Go back to bed, then. Nice glass of warm milk and all. Fix you right up.” Yeah, right. Like that had ever worked for Thorn. He took another big bite of his burger, then opened the coffee he’d bought along with it and stirred in some sugar. “So, you live near here, then? Or have you been walking?” Thorn understood that, he walked when he couldn’t sleep.

It took quite a bit for Tore to control his temper. He was beginning to discover just how like his father he really was. He had a bad temper. That or this were could just grate on his nerves. Tore took one of his own burgers and started biting into it and muching away. It was a good way to work out the stress he was feeling. "Just because I look young doesn't mean I am. It also doesn't mean that I can't have trouble sleeping because it's the middle of the day." He wasn't going to tell him that he really was as young (if not younger) than he looked. Nor that he was having trouble sleeping probably in part because he felt guilty for lying to his boss constantly about his age. In a couple more years he wouldn't be lying, but he doubted that he would be around that long.
"Besides, the milk comment is slightly condescending and you assuming I'm going to tell you anything about where I live is ridiculous. I'd rather know that I can sleep without someone coming because they know wher eI live. I'd rather keep someone guessing."

“Oh, for God’s sake, kid,” he said, and this time he didn’t care if the kid got huffy. “It’s obvious you’re young just by that damn chip on your shoulder. I know; I had one when I was your age, too. But when I was your age, I had the common sense not to let strangers see it. I could care less where the hell you live or whether you sleep or not. I was trying to make polite conversation because it was obvious as hell that I scared you, just being what I am. Now, let me get another burger into me so I can promise not to rip your throat out, and then you can move off without my wolf wanting like hell to chase you down.” The words were harsh now, but Thorn had had a bad couple of days and he was in no mood to continue to try to be polite if this kid was going to stay testy.

It was Tore's turn to laugh and he laughed. He enjoyed it to. He hadn't laughed that hard in ages. It was something he had only done around his mother. His father was too hard for something like that. It took Tore a minute and a few deep breaths before he could control his laughed and look up at the were who kept half-threatening to eat him.
"Do you know, my father is worse far worse than me. He loves to make people made. There's a reason he's a swan. One day he might learn, but I promise you...I'll learn first...or die." Tore shrugged at that and took another bite of his burger. "Still feel like ripping my head off because I'm a little bastard? Or is it only because I smell like food now?"

The kid’s laughter was infectious and Thorn grinned at him. “Feathery, fragile swan persons should not piss off hungry big bad wolves. Not unless they wish to be the main course at a banquet, that is.” He unwrapped another burger and bit in with gusto. The kid still smelled food-like, but not as much like the eat-it-here-and-now smell he’d worn earlier in Thorn’s nostrils.
“You can be a little bastard if you like, as long as you don’t mind me being a bigger one. And, yeah, you keep that up, you’re gonna die young. Kid.” He added the last on purpose, to see if he could get another rise out of Tore.
