Chicago...Home of a population of over three million people.
Chicago...A city of lights.
Chicago...The City of Wind.
The city...the tall buildings...the remaining stockyards...a place where no sane person leaves home without protection...it is not only corrupt but thoroughly honest and unapologetic in its corruption.
Chicago, home of the vampires who thirst for acceptance as well as blood.
Chicago, home of the lycans who struggle against the beasts within...
Chicago, home of the magical fey whose powers know no bounds...
Chicago, home of the witches and supernatural beings who crave power.
The setting is present day Chicago, Illinois. It is a city that has recently been rocked by a purging of the supernatural community. None of the powers that be are sure exactly what transpired. Unsure of what caused the recent troubles they are sure of one thing... Chicago is once again habitable to their kind. As such the city is in the middle of a land grab the likes of which hasn't been seen since the westward expansion. The first casualties appear to be the local Streak as the other clans have their hands at the throats of those who lust for power. Everyone wants their fair share and the city is in uproar as the dust begins to settle...

"thanks i just might... i would love to see you in concert. i do love the sunlight but my work is very important to me. if i can complete my work then it would help many. so me missing a a few sun rises would be worth wild."
sabin though about being able to bask in the sun without having the beast inside. sabin was forever torn he loved to be powerful and a snake they had there uses but then again the power that he was given up was even worth more.
"i love to somebathe i do it often believe on top of my home. but as relaxing as it is i almost never sleep. "
sabin thought about going to his roof in his 'greenhouse' reinforced glass room the sun is concentrated to sauna tempertures. sabin normally shifts and relaxes up there while gardening in his weresnake form. he is shielded from prying eyes so he could do anything on his roof without fear of reprisal. some of the perks of being rich and a were snake. the thought alone brought a smile to his face.
"sorry i get lost in thought easily where were we. oh yea just tell me when the next time you are going to be on stage ill make sure i'm there. "

"That's okay. I get lost in thought too, except I think outloud more than I do in my mind. I know that it annoys people, but I can't help it. It's just something that I can't seem to quite get past. Question...question...oh yeah! I play every Tuesday night. They of course always have other random few nights of things that I'll go to sometimes, but Tuesdays are the regulars. You should come up and try. It doesn't usually matter if you can sing or joke or not. It's just fun."
And a relief to her mind. She always slept better after one of those nights. There were less occurences of dream walking after a night of singing and joking around and laughing. She didn't know if it was a conicidence or not, but it wasn't something she was going to give up. A chance at a sleep without being interrupted by a dream you couldn't even affect was a chance she gladly took.

"will do, i'll be there on tuesday, of course i don't sing dance or joke, so i'll just watch those that can."
sabin couldn't even fathom the thought of being on stage. it would be akin to a whale going shopping.
sabin wiped his mouth the remnants of his meal all that was left.
"oh man that felt good."
sabin rocked back in his booth thinking about how good it would feel to sleep while he sunbathed his scales glistening in the sun. once he awoke he could shed his skin of all the dirt and grime of the last week. for sabin shedding his skin was more spiritual than physical. he would burn the old skin in atonement for the sins that he did while wearing it.
"do you like the food? don't worry about the bill i'll take care of it. have dessert if you like, i'm stuffed."
sabin begin digesting his food almost immediately. knowing that he would not need to eat for some time.

"Me?" Elf asked. "You don't have to pay for me. I mean, not to be rude. Especially since the only people who have ever paid for my food are my parents, it's just that...I don't even know my reasoning right now," Elf sighed and shook her head. "And this is why I'm not allowed to think," she said with half a chuckle. "I'm sorry for babbling. I usually jump topics not ramble meaninglessly. This is a new one for me. Thank you for the offer. Though I don't think I need desert."
It took her by surprise for someone to pay for her food. Her parents hadn't done it in a long time. It was nice. A little reminder of friendship and humanity to her. Most people would think she was just doing what they would all do. Being selfish and taking advantage of kindness. They didn't know Elf McKinney though. Elf didn't know how to be selfish. She just knew how to be a friend.

"i offered because in the breif few moments that i met you. ushered in a breath of fresh air into the staleness of my existance. a meal is a pittance when compared to what you had given me. "
sabin really enjoyed his meal with the young magic user. most lycanthropes steered clear of sabin because either what he was or from fear. she, although not a lycan of any clan sat and spent time as a friend. if only the rest of the world was like this child then he would not spend his days working to cure his lycanthropy. he would just return to his family and take his proper place in his family. however the world was not like her. the world for sabin is a cold cruel dark place and elf is a ray of bright sunshine in the darkness.
"really elf ... it's was offered out of kindness. if you want to pay then that's fine i would take no offense. i just wanted to thank you for brighting my morning."
sabin waved at the waitress for the check. his vacation over he took a deep breath to steel himself for the work ahead. he had so many things to do most of them dangerous, his thoughts floated about the people he had to meet today. god he would love to just sunbathe on his roof, but there was work to be done.
"good jouneys elf. drop a line if you would like."
sabin stood and streched. as he waited for the check. he would put give the waitress a hundred dollar bill no matter what the bill was. maybe it would has a similar effect on the lady as elf did on sabin.

"Hm," Elf made the noise softly under her breath after Sabin had left. It had been a good morning after all. Maybe if she tried to sleep, being so cheerful, her sprirt would stay in her body. She wouldn't start walking into people's dreams. It would be a nice change from what she was accustomed to. It wasn't likely to hapent though. That meant she had a long day ahead of her. She didn't mind it too much. Just the thought of facing it without sleep wasn't appealing. Maybe she should go to the University and see if there was any way for her to go back to college. The idea had merit. Maybe it was time for her to go back to school. The real question was...what would she study?
